SAN Beda is set to lose another high school basketball star.

After Arvin Tolentino transfered to Ateneo last season, current Red Cubs star Andrei Caracut has also decided to move to a UAAP school for his collegiate career.

Red Lions team manager Jude Roque confirmed the development to Spin.ph, saying the 5-foot-10 playmaker informed him of the decision last week.

“We tried to recruit Andrei because we really need a shooting guard with his caliber, but unfortunately he told me he preferred to play in the UAAP, so we cannot force the kid,” Roque said Monday night after the Spin.ph Sportsman of the Year 2014 awards night at Sofitel where he received an award for the Lions for being part of the Top 10 Sports Heroes of last year.

“Now, I think most UAAP schools are talking to him. I don’t know where he is inclined to go,” Roque added of the 18-year-old Quezon native, who led the Cubs to a sixth straight NCAA juniors’ title last October.

La Salle and Ateneo, sources said, are among the schools courting the blue-chip prospect.

Caracut, who averaged a team-leading 14.7 points on top of 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 26.3 minutes in the elimination round of Season 90, earlier said playing time was one consideration that would factor into his decision.

But seeing heavy minutes for the Lions right away would not be automatic with the seniors’ squad still loaded with a plethora of guards led by Baser Amer as well as Dan Sara and Radge Tongco.

“But it saddened us because we really wanted him and the whole Bedan community was waiting for him,” Roque said. “I guess we just have to wish him well.”
