THE loss of its men’s basketball team served as the major motivation of the University of Perpetual Help’s cheerdance squad in its title-retention bid.

The Altas Perpsquad won its fourth straight championship on Saturday night after topping the cheerdance competition of the NCAA 88th season before a crowd of more than 8,000 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The reigning champions, who danced to the theme `How To Treat A Queen,' highlighted their five-minute performance with tic tocs, synchronized tumbling, tosses, and pyramids.

Overall, it was their seventh cheerleading championships, while winning the top prize of P100,000.

Rhufa Rosario, Perpetual Help coach, said the misfortunes of the school’s basketball team was the Altas Perpsquad’s inspiration to succeed.

“Pag sa basketball (team) kasi namin, mag-chi-cheer kami, pagod na talo pa,” he said smiling.

“Kaya naghintay talaga kami ng time namin to shine. At eto na yun (cheerdance).”

Despite competing with only six senior players in its roster, the feat by the Las Pinas-based school already eclipsed its previous three straight title romp from 2005-2007.
