UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help has dropped its plan to file a protest and instead is only seeking a rule clarification on a contentious play in the Altas’ 78-77 overtime loss to San Sebastian last Monday in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
NCAA management committee chairman Dax Castellano of College of St. Benilde on Thursday said Perpetual, through its mancom representative Moises Lozada, submitted the clarification letter, which was forwarded to league commissioner Joe Lipa.
“Hindi na (protest), clarification na lang about yung Fiba rule,” Castellano said. “Binigay na kay commissioner yung letter.”
The Altas contended that Juneric Baloria should’ve been awarded two free throws when the prized rookie guard was fouled after he was hit in the groin following his challenge to the successful three-point conversion of Stags guard Jon Rebollos late in the second quarter.
The Las Piñas-based squad signified its intention to put the thrilling game under protest after skipper Harold Arboleda put his signature on the stat sheet.
