SAN Sebastian weathered Benilde's comeback to post a 66-57 win on Thursday in the NCAA Season 92 basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Allyn Bulanadi led the Stags with 17 points, including a wide-open three-pointer and breakaway dunk that put the Blazers away for good in the battle of also-rans.
The Stags improved to a 6-10 win-loss card and extended St. Benilde's misery.
The Blazers, who stormed back from 15 points down, remained winless in 15 games.
Benilde turned the catch-up game into a tight contest in the final minutes of the fourth period. Four straight points by Franz Pasamante sliced the lead to seven, 62-55.
But Bulanadi answered emphatically with a slam, 64-55, with under a minute to go and the Blazers failed to recover from there.
"Bumalik ang St. Benilde pero na-stop pa rin ng mga bata. It's all about defense," said San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya.
"We want to impose the winning tradition. Kahit anong game dapat manalo kami."
Clement Leutcheu and Christian Fajarito paced Benilde with 11 and 10 markers, respectively.
