SAN Sebastian went full throttle in the second period, let off the gas in the fourth and still came away with an 85-58 rout of Jose Rizal U on Thursday to end their 92nd NCAA basketball campaign on a high note.
The Stags, who improved to an 8-10 card, outscored the Heavy Bombers in the said period, 21-11, to wrap up the first half with a 42-29 lead that they never relinquished.
As if the beating wasn't enough, San Sebastian continued to pounce on the helpless JRU side and even led by as much as 83-51 on Alfred Gayosa's layup with 2:30 remaining in the no-bearing contest.
Allyn Bulanadi led San Sebastian's balanced attack with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Ryan Costelo had an all-around outing of 13 points, five rebounds, and six assists, while Michael Calisaan and Alvin Capobres added 13 and 12, respectively, for the Stags.
"We jelled very late, but still ang maganda doon is everybody doesn't want to lose anymore. Nakikita na ang hardwork and intensity ng mga bata," said San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya, whose squad lost only twice in the second round.
"Hopefully, we bring it to Season 93. Thank God, natututo na manalo ang San Sebastian," he added
In his final game in the NCAA, Paolo Pontejos paced the Heavy Bombers with 14 points and six rebounds.
JRU fell to a 9-9 record and missed the final four for the first time since Season 89.
