BRIGHT Akhuetie made a big impact in his return to action as Perpetual Help downed Jose Rizal University, 58-50, on Friday in the NCAA Season 92 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Perpetual’s Cameroonian center didn’t miss a beat despite missing the first game due to an injured right knee. Akhuetie made up for lost time in his season debut, clustering eight straight points late in the fourth to lead the Altas to their first victory.
Akhuetie finished with 19 points and eight rebounds for the Altas, who improved to 1-1.
“At least, nabasag ‘yung itlog para makabuwelo,” said Perpetual Help coach Jimwell Gican.
With Perpetual holding on to a one-point lead, 47-46, Akhuetie took over by scoring inside the paint as the Altas finished the game with a 10-4 blast.
“Lumiliit talaga kami kapag wala si Bright,” Gican said.
Gerald Dizon had 12 points, including 10 in the first half, that saw the Altas lead, 31-25. Gab Dagangon added 10 for Perpetual Help.
Tey Teodoro had 24 points, the lone double digit scorer for the Heavy Bombers. He already had 19 in the first half as he failed to get support from the rest of the team, which bowed to 0-2.
