MARK Nonoy was the jolt of energy Team UAAP needed to pull off an 86-83 victory over Team NCAA Friday in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup All-Star Game.
The UST super-rookie scored all of his eight points in the fourth quarter as he came from his high school graduation and still made the biggest impact in the endgame for Team UAAP.
"He's really a jitterbug," said coach Franz Pumaren of Nonoy, who also had three rebounds and three assists in his 10 minutes of play.
With Team UAAP holding a slim 84-83 lead, Team NCAA forced a 24-second shot clock violation with 12.7 seconds remaining and still had a chance to steal the game.
Jaycee Marcelino, however, flubbed his 15-footer, with Nonoy hauling down the rebound before dishing the ball off to Simon Camacho for the game-icing lay-up at the buzzer.
"It's all about bragging rights. The players really wanted to win," said Pumaren.
Andrei Caracut led Team UAAP with 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists to be named as the All-Star Game MVP.
Camacho added 11 points, three boards, two assists, and two steals, as John Lloyd Clemente had 10.
Team UAAP played without starters Kobe Paras and Ricci Rivero, both of whom are nursing nagging injuries and begged off from playing in the exhibition.
Team NCAA leaned on Marcelino, who got 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists, while Clint Doliguez got 12 points, seven boards, and two dimes
