    Zachy Huang gets hot from beyond arc as UST downs UE to halt two-game slide

    UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas downed University of the East, 101-73, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 82 men's basketball tournament at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

    Zachy Huang unleashed a career-high 22 points, going 6 for 8 from threes, as the Growling Tigers halted its two-game losing streak.

    Soulemane Chabi Yo also got his bearings back and came up with 22 points, 14 boards, two assists and a steal as UST rose to a 5-4 win-loss record.

    Sherwin Concepcion scored 10 points built on a pair of treys, to go with seven rebounds and an assist, while Brent Paraiso had 10 points as the Growling Tigers scored a season-high 101 points on 42 percent shooting from the field.

    UST went 14 for 42 from beyond the arc to bounce back after its paltry 28-percent shooting from deep against Ateneo on Saturday.

    "One of the factors siguro kaya ganun yung laro kasi we were able to release the pressure," said coach Aldin Ayo. "Yung past games namin, grabe yung pressure sa mga bata."

    "I told them kung paano tayo nag-start ng season, nung first game versus UE, dapat ganun yung approach. Binigyan lang namin yun ng pansin and this game, we were more relaxed. I told them to go back to having fun while playing and just enjoy the season."

    The Growling Tigers led by 34 points, 72-38, with 4:59 remaining in the third period and cruised to victory.

    Alex Diakhite tallied 24 points, 12 rebounds and three assists for UE, which saw its two-game winning run stopped to fall to a 3-6 card.

    Neil Tolentino got 11 points and four boards, as Philip Manalang and Rey Suerte both scored 10.
