UNIVERSITY of the Philippines won't let itself get behind in the recruitment race.

The Fighting Maroons have secured the commitment of Xavier standout Miguel Tan, who was once part of the Gilas Youth pool.

Coach Bo Perasol confirmed the development.

"He's a great addition to our program," he said. "Miguel is a versatile young man with a lot of potential."

Tan is a 6-foot-5 prospect who was a part of the gold medal-winning Gilas Youth team in the 2017 Seaba Under-16 Championship the Philippines hosted.

He was also part of the pool for the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup which competed in Heraklion, Greece.

"He's coming off of high school so he has the full five years of playing eligibility. He's going to be part of the new blood of the Fighting Maroons for years to come," said Perasol.

Tan can play for the Fighting Maroons as early as UAAP Season 83.

UP has previously reloaded its roster, acquiring transferees Joel Cagulangan from La Salle and Senegalese center Maodo Malick Diouf from Centro Escolar University, as well as the commitment of La Salle Greenhills scorer RC Calimag and 6-foot-10 Fil-Aussie project Ethan Kirkness.
