    Wonder why Daquioag sat out Game Three? Ballesteros sheds light on UST super-sub's benching

    WONDER where University of Santo Tomas super-sub Ed Daquioag was in Game Three?

    The Tigers two-guard, a fomer Team B player who stepped up to play a key role for UST in its run to the UAAP Finals, spent the entire title decider on the bench as he watched his team drop a 69-71 setback to De La Salle.

    Daquioag averaged 8.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in the regular season, where he became an integral part of coach Pido Jarencio's backcourt rotation with his slashing plays and timely sniping.

    However, the 21-year-old from Ilocos Norte struggled in the first two games of the finals series against the Green Archers as he only saw a combined 10 minutes of action and never scored a point.

    But UST assistant coach Estong Ballesteros said that was not the reason Jarencio benched the player in Game Two, blaming a back injury suffered by the super sub. 

    “May tama siya sa likod,” said Ballesteros after the loss. “Injured talaga siya, desisyon na rin ni coach ‘yun (na hindi palaruin)."
