ONLY the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Department of Health (DOH) have received the full report of the University of Santo Tomas with regard to its controversial Bicol bubble.
That's the reason the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has yet to issue a definitive stance following the trainings of the school's men's basketball team in Capuy, Sorsogon.
UST was represented by its in-house legal counsel Atty. Alfonso Verzosa and legal coordinator Atty. Elgin Michael Perez in the three-hour session on Tuesday as the school finally met with government officials to tackle the matter.
It's in contrast to National University, which was represented by athletic director Otie Camangian, who "commited to cooperate with any government inquiry on the matter" and "answered clarificatory questions from government agencies present."
Attending the said session were Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) national training director Marc Velasco, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) commissioner Prospero de Vera and executive director Atty. Cindy Jaro, Department of Health (DOH) representative Rodley Carza, and Games and Amusements Board (GAB) chair Baham Mitra, as well as UAAP president Nonong Calanog of La Salle and executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag.
The Sports JAO (Joint Administrative Order on the resumption of sports and physical activities) will continue to discuss the matter as they are set to re-convene this week.
The UAAP's Board of Managing Directors (BMD) are also set to discuss the situations of both UST and NU on Thursday.
Here's the PSC's statement in full:
The Sports JAO (Joint Administrative Order on the resumption of sports and physical activities) agencies, namely PSC, GAB and DOH met this afternoon and discussed the details of issues raised against the National University and University of Sto. Tomas, which both allegedly trained despite quarantine rules.
NU was present and gave its statement and commited to cooperate with any government inquiry on the matter. They also answered clarificatory questions from government agencies present.
With regards to the issue raised against UST, the PSC can not comment at the moment. UST submitted their report only to CHED and DOH.
DOH, PSC, GAB and CHED will discuss their findings and possible actions on the next meeting. No defiinite date has been set for the meeting but it is planned for this week.
