ROI Sumang leads a veteran-laden University of the East lineup looking to barge into the Final Four this season in Derick Pumaren's first season in charge of his alma mater.
Only three players from the Red Warriors’ 16-man lineup are in their teens entering Season 77, the least in the league this year, as they look to grab a seat in the Final Four despite the loss of five key players and the sudden departure of former head coach Boycie Zamar.
Some of the this year’s Red Warriors, however, will play in the UAAP for the first time after either being part of Team B in past years or finishing their residency requirement.
Leading the cast of this year’s Red Warriors is the 23-year-old Sumang, the team’s star player who was a Mythical Five awardee last season and a gold medalist in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games.
Sierra Leonean import Charles Mammie will now be joined by athletic Cameroonian Moustapha Arafat, who will play for the Red Warriors in the UAAP for the first time after taking up residency.
Also part of the lineup are Chris Javier, Pedrito Galanza, Gino Jumao-as, Dan Alberto, Ronnie De Leon, Steven Cudal, Daryll Guiang, Ivan Hernandez, Emil Palma, and Paul Varilla.
Edgar Charcos, Clarik Derige, and Mark Olayon are the only players aged below for the Warriors, who open their campaign with a game against University of the Philippines on July 12 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
