ATENEO snapped a two-game losing skid after beating lowly Adamson, 87-72, on Saturday in UAAP Season 78 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Kiefer Ravena was three rebounds shy of a triple-double after finishing with 20 points, eight boards, and 11 assists to show the way for the Blue Eagles, who raised their mark to 5-4 overall.
Not even an unsportsmanlike foul called on Ravena following a hard foul by Adamson's Joseph Nalos on Vince Tolentino could spoil the effort of the current league MVP to lift the Eagles to the lopsided victory and tie rival La Salle at third place.
“We agreed that the remaining games would be very important so any win that we could add to our winning slate (is big for us),” said Ateneo coach Bo Perasol.
“At this point, what we are trying to do is to be in position for a Final Four,” added the Blue Eagles mentor.
Ravena already had 15 points in the first half alone to lead the Blue Eagles to a 50-41 advantage at the break.
He eventually finished by shooting 8-of-16 from the field.
Von Pessumal had 17 points, while Aaron Black and Gwayne Capacio added 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Katipunan-based team..
Tempers nearly flared during the game after Nalos committed a hard foul on Tolentino during the five-minute mark of the third quarter, from which Ravena retaliated by shoving Nalos to the ground.
Nalos was thrown out of the game, while Ravena was called for an unsportsmanlike foul.
