VALANDRE Chauca anchored Adamson's telling 16-0 finish to stun University of Santo Tomas, 78-71, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 82 men's basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Fil-Peruvian guard delivered 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Soaring Falcons back from a 13-point fourth quarter deficit, and a nine-point hole with three minutes remaining.
Chauca also had eight assists and six rebounds as Adamson gained a share of third place with UST at 3-2.
"We got a big lift from Val. That’s why he’s here. He’s here to guide this young team," said coach Franz Pumaren of his sweet-shooting one-and-done.
With Chauca firing on all cylinders, Adamson was able to rise from a 62-71 down, holding UST scoreless in the final 3:07 to atone for its meltdown last Sunday against University of the Philippines.
"We needed this win. As you all know what happened to us the last game, you can see it in the body language of our players," said Pumaren, with the Soaring Falcons also clawing their way back from a 61-48 deficit early in the payoff period.
Jerrick Ahanmisi also had his way for Adamson with 24 points on 4-of-10 shooting from deep, on top of four rebounds and three assists, while Congolese bruiser Lenda Douanga did his part down low with nine points and nine boards.
Soulemane Chabi Yo topscored for UST with 17 points, while adding 15 rebounds, two assists and a block, while CJ Cansino, Sherwin Concepcion, and Mark Nonoy had 10 each.
