SOULEMANE Chabi Yo of University of Santo Tomas is the MVP for the UAAP Season 82 men's basketball tournament.
The Beninese high-flyer claimed the top individual honors after steering the Growling Tigers back to the Final Four for the first time in three years.
Chabi Yo garnered 76 statistical points (SPs) after averaging 16.9 points, 14.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists and become only the seventh player from UST to win the award, and the first since Dylan Ababou got the plum in 2009.
La Salle slotman Justine Baltazar finished as runner-up in the MVP race after amassing 64 SPs on 15.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 blocks.
Fellow Green Archer Jamie Malonzo also earned his spot in the Mythical Team with 63.23 SPs after netting 15.8 points, 9.9 boards, 1.6 dimes and 1.1 steals.
University of the Philippines' do-it-all forward Kobe Paras had 62.08 SPs after posting 17.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks, while completing the Mythical Five is University of the East guard Rey Suerte with 60.93 SPs for averaging 17.6 points, 6.8 boards, 3.9 assists and 1.2 steals in his lone UAAP season.
It will also be a double celebration in Espana as Mark Nonoy won the Rookie of the Year honors.
The guard from La Carlota, Negros Occidental collected 39.29 SPs after posting 10.0 points, 3.8 boards and 2.3 dimes for the Growling Tigers.
Nonoy is the first UST player to win the award after Jeric Teng got the top rookie honors in 2009.
