UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas turned to its super-subs in the absence of gunner Jeric Teng as the Tigers trounced University of the East, 85-69, on Sunday in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Teng was sidelined by an MCL injury but Santo Tomas found several players who were more than willing to step up, none more prominently than Louie Vigil who scored 10 of his 13 points in the first half while starting in Teng's place.
“Maganda ang contribution ng mga bench players ko, mga players na hindi pa nabibigyan ng pagkakataon dahil limited ang mga oras nila para nag-step-up dahil wala si Jeric Teng,” said coach Pido Jarencio after the Tigers' fourth straight win after an opening loss.
The Warriors, who had 20 points from JR Sumido, remained winless after five games.
Meanwhile, a robbery incident was reported inside the press room of the Big Dome while the UST-UE game was ongoing.
An online photographer lost his Mac laptop while a wallet of a staffer in the league’s online media bureau was also reported missing.
The suspected thief was caught on CCTV camera but remains at large at posting time.
