UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas fight for dear life on Saturday as it faces reigning champion De La Salle in the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Tigers face the Green Archers at 4 p.m.
With a 5-6 win-loss record, the struggling Tigers are just one defeat away from elimination after making the Finals for two consecutive seasons.
Coming off a 69-58 loss to Ateneo last week, UST coach Bong Dela Cruz is not yet giving up hope in a season that saw the Tigers struggle against teams with winning records.
“Kailangan lang namin ngayon, ‘yung pride namin at puso. ‘Yun lang naman ang pinag-u-usapan namin. Basta laban lang ng laban. Kahit may pag-asa pa kami pero slim, laban lang,” said the soft-spoken UST coach.
The Green Archers are eyeing to gain at least a playoff for a Final Four berth as they attempt to improve their 8-3 win-loss record.
In the first game, Ateneo (9-3) guns for a Final Four spot against winless Adamson (0-12) at 2 p.m.
The Blue Eagles are not taking things lightly especially after a close call against University of the Philippines on Wednesday, 70-69, that saw Mikee Reyes missed two potential-winning free throws for the Maroons.
“I hope that we can improve in time for our game against Adamson. We have to better than what we were against UP,” Perasol said.
