UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas stunned defending champion Far Eastern University, 71-65, on Sunday in the opener of the UAAP juniors basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Baby Tamaraws lost their first UAAP game without the core of last year’s champion team led by two-time juniors MVP Jerie Pingoy.
Isaiah Dandan had 18 points – including 10 in the fourth quarter – on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range and had 15 rebounds. Paulo Corre added 11 and Randolf Marcelo finished with10 points for the Tiger Cubs.
JJ Domingo was the lone double digit scorer for the reigning champions with 18 points.
In the other juniors game, De La Salle-Zobel defeated Adamson in overtime, 84-80.
Alfonso Banzon had 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals, Henri Subido with 18 points, and Karl Maldinger grabbed 18 rebounds for the Junior Archers.
Reinier Quinga had 24 points, 26 rebounds, and five blocks in a losing effort for the Baby Falcons.
