THE UAAP Commissioner’s Office has turned down University of Santo Tomas’ protest over its 66-68 loss to Ateneo on Saturday, saying the referees' decisions that were questioned were judgement calls.

“Protest turned down as it involves judgement calls,” said UAAP basketball commissioner Ato Badolato in a text message.

The Tigers put the game under protest after center Karim Abdul was called for goaltending on a Ryan Buenafe shot with 5.1 seconds, leading to a three-point play which provided the marginal points.

UST also argued that a technical foul should have been called on Ateneo coach Norman Black, who stormed to the opposite end of the court and berated the referees for a non-call in the endgame.

The Tigers, however, have the option to elevate their protest to the UAAP technical board, which is headed by Fr. Ermito De Sagun of UST.

The Tigers dropped to a 9-4 win-loss record but are still in second place following Far Eastern University’s loss to De La Salle on Sunday.
