UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas snapped its losing run while extending Adamson’s slide with an 80-67 victory on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The shorthanded Tigers broke their three-game slump, improving their win-loss record to 5-5 for sixth place. Adamson, on the other hand, absorbed its sixth straight defeat and now hold a 3-8 win-loss slate.

UST won despite missing skipper Jeric Teng, who is still recovering from a right hamstring injury he sustained in their previous encounter against National University.

Karim Abdul topscored for the Tigers with 19 points while also contributing 12 rebounds and four blocks. Ed Daquioag added 17 points and Aljon Mariano had 16 markers.

“Nag-step up si Karim sa second round tapos nakatulong din ’yung iba,” said UST coach Pido Jarencio.

But Jarencio admitted that Teng’s absence remained a big factor for the team.

“Nawala si Teng, nawala ’yung leader namin, nagka-windang windang ang team,” said Jarencio.
