NATIONAL University coach Jamike Jarin lauded the efforts of University of Santo Tomas as the Bulldogs survived a scare against the winless Growling Tigers, who fell to their third straight defeat in UAAP Season 80.
The Bulldogs won over University of Santo Tomas, 94-84, but had to earn the victory as they used a 10-0 run late in the fourth period to beat the Tigers.
Entering the third, UST was still up, 73-70, leaving Jarin to say that the Tigers' record doesn't reflect how good the team is this season.
"This is the best game they've ever played. If you look at their record, it's 0-3 but it doesn't add up to the story," said Jarin.
UST coach Boy Sablan was unable to speak to reporters after the game to make an assessment of the team, but Jarin sees a potential in the Tigers despite being winless, and even expected a close game against UST on Wednesday.
"They only lost by a winning basket by Paul Desiderio. They commited 41 turnovers against Adamson but they only lost by seven. Their record doesn't speak of where they are right now," said Jarin.
Regie Basibas was the leading scorer for UST with 23 points, while Jordan Sta. Ana, a transferee from University of the East, had 14 points in the contest.
Jarin said NU was fortunate to come out with the victory after his team made adjustments in the fourth period.
"Good thing after 40 minutes, we were able to get the victory. It was a hard-fought game. They were controlling the game. We were able to make a run and held on to it," said Jarin.
