UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas coach Boy Sablan slammed the officiating after their one-sided loss to La Salle, pointing to two calls which he insisted were glaring errors.
Sablan openly criticized two calls in the first quarter that, he believed, killed the Tigers' momentum when they were ahead early in the first period.
“Napigil kami dun sa mga tawag nung first quarter,” said Sablan after emerging from the UST dugout at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum following their 99-56 loss to La Salle.
Sablan mentioned a shot by William Afoakwah which was blocked by Abu Tratter, which he felt should have been called a goaltending violation as the ball already hit the board before the block.
Another play that left Sablan furious was a non-call on Ricci Rivero in a play where he felt that a travelling should have been called on the La Salle rookie.
Sabi ko, pa-splice natin (video),” said Sablan.
The UST coach was later called for a technical foul for complaining about the Rivero non-call.
“Tumalon na, hindi pa binibitawan ‘yung bola. Okay daw 'yun. Maliwanag na maliwanag,” he added.
Sablan said he spoke to the referees at the half when La Salle was already ahead, 45-23.
Pero nung first quarter, nung lamang kami, ayaw tumawag,” said Sablan.
“Sabi ng mga referee, wala silang pinapaboran. ‘Yun ang sabi nila. Wala nga kayong pinapaboran dahil mali mali ang tawag niyo,” he said.
Sablan said he has never been critical of the referees until Sunday.
“I’ve been good to officiating. Kahit isulat niyo pa ‘yan,” Sablan told reporters.
“Kilala ko yung galawan nila dito,” said Sablan, without elaborating.
