ANOTHER Kobe is headed to the University of the Philippines as the UPIS Jr. Maroons successfully recruited 6-foot-8 big man Heinz Gabriel “Kobe” Demisana of the Bacolod Tay Tung Thunderbolts.
A native of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, Demisana made headlines last year after making it to the Asia Pacific selection that represented the region in the Jr. NBA Global Championship that was held in Orlando, Florida.
Demisana’s recruitment was formalized when Maroons officials met with the 15-year old’s representatives.
Demisana’s arrival in UPIS is expected to be a huge boost for a Junior Maroons team that finished with just one win and 13 losses in the UAAP Season 82 Boys Basketball Tournament.
The teenager is UPIS' second recruit from the region. The school previously signed guard Nathaniel Montecillo, who was an All-Star for the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors in the Cesafi juniors division.
On the ther hand, UP's senior team secured Cebuano big man Carl Tamayo as well as guard Gerry Abadiano from the National University Bullpups to beef up a lineup led by Kobe Paras, Ricci Rivero and Bright Akhuetie.
