UP official comes under fire for post 'threatening safety of Ateneo players'

    Dec 2, 2018

AN official of the University of the Philippines has come under fire after posting a cryptic message that netizens felt threatened the safety of Ateneo players ahead of Game Two of the UAAP Season 81 Finals between the two schols.

Spocky Farolan, a member of the UP Board of Regents, made the comment on his Facebook page a day after the Maroons lost to the Blue Eagles, 88-79, in a game that saw UP star Bright Akhuetie sit out a long stretch after an injury scare.

Farolan, a lawyer, hinted Ateneo won't have a full complement of players for Game Two of the best-of-three finals on Wednesday because "three of its players will be out injured."

In a comment on the thread, Farolan even talked about a 'composite strike by UP frats' as a 'sign of solidarity.'

    "Tatlong players lang," he said.

Netizens reacted angrily when the post went viral. Farolan later deleted the post, explaining that "there was sarcasm in that comment which may not have been immediately and easily perceived by some."
