UNIVERSITY of the Philippines coach Ricky Dandan asserted that it was Mikee Reyes who decided to leave the team after the Maroons’ first game in Season 76 of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
The outspoken mentor said Reyes quit the team after suiting up in the Maroons' opening game of the season against Adamson last Sunday, but he insisted the team is moving on.
“That is Mikee’s decision,” said Dandan. “We have to accept that and the team is moving on.”
The UP coach gave no reason on why Reyes left the team, although there were reports about a shouting incident between the two during the Maroons’ match against the Falcons.
But Dandan appeared to have given a hint on the events that led to Reyes’ departure.
“No one is above the team. I have the whole team to think about,” said Dandan.
And neither does the UP coach intend to make the first move to lure Reyes back to the team.
“I can’t speak for him. I didn’t expect that decision, but I will not tell him to go back to the team or change his decision.”
Reyes’ decision to leave the team came at a time when the player is on a comeback trail after suffering a second shoulder injury.
