SENATOR Sonny Angara and Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) president and chief executive officer Chito Salud threw their support to the ongoing campaign of University of the Philippines with hopes of boosting the Fighting Maroons’ morale as they bid for a Final Four berth.

UP assistant coach Allan Gregorio said brothers Patrick, the current Talk ‘N Text alternate governor in the PBA board, and Ryan Gregorio, former coach and Meralco alternate governor, tendered a dinner for the team which Angara and Salud both attended.

Both Salud and Angara are graduates of the famed UP College of Law.

Gregorio said the dinner was held precisely to pump up the Maroons halfway through the elimination round when they go for broke in an attempt to make the semis.

Angara and Salud gave encouraging words to the Fighting Maroons during the dinner.

“It’s a ra-ra night,” said Gregorio. “Binuo ito to make us feel na we are appreciated, don’t give up despite being in the lower bracket, kasi mathematically, we are still okay.”

Angara had good words about the Fighting Maroons, saying they are capable of living up to their potential.

“They are fun to watch. They are young, talented, and exciting, with a lot of potential since most are returning next year,” said the senator, who himself is a mean baller.

The Maroons won their first two games of the season but have fallen into hard times since then, losing five straight games. They currently have a 3-5 win-loss slate.
