UNIVERSITY of the Philippines definitely has high hopes in Season 78 of the UAAP.
And proof of it was the fashion statement its coaching staff did in Saturday’s opener at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Led by rookie mentor Rensy Bajar, the Fighting Maroons’ coaching staff wore khaki pants over clean, sleek white folded long sleeves that gave them a formal, corporate look.
Bajar later said the outfit was his idea in a bid to bring a professional feel to the team.
“Maging maayos lang, manamit lang ng maayos and I treat this as professional talaga,” said the former San Beda stalwart.
“Sa akin galing nag-agree naman sila,” he added.
Part of Bajar’s staff at UP include former Maroons Woody Co and Mo Gingerich along with veterans Allan Gregorio, Joe Ward, and Poch Juinio, the only remnant from last year’s coaching group.
Incidentally, only Ward wasn’t in a corporate attire, opting to wear the customary UP polo short.
“Woody Co is part of our management group. Siya 'yung tao ng Robinson's (Supermarket) sa amin, and si Mo Gingerich is part of my coaching staff,” said Bajar.
“Maganda naman (ang samahan ng coahing staff). Nagtu-tulungan naman ang lahat towards our goal to win,” he added.
The Fighting Maroons didn’t disappoint and gifted the coaching staff with a 62-55 win over University of the East Warriors.
