UNIVERSITY of the Philippines coach Rey Madrid was handed a two-game suspension by the UAAP Commissioner's Office on Tuesday for 'unsubstantiated' accusations of point shaving after the Maroons' loss to the University of Santo Tomas Tigers last week.

Commissioner Andy Jao confirmed the suspension after a review of the video of the Maroons' 73-57 loss to the Tigers on Saturday in which Madrid had raised fears that the referees helped UST widen the lead towards the end to reach a certain 'number.'

Jao said he handed down the ban after Madrid failed to "show proof of his accusations" in a letter send to the league on Monday.

In the same letter, Madrid apologized to the league for his statements.

"I have suspended Mr. Madrid for two playing days," said Jao, explaining that he had to make sure the letter announcing the suspension reached the teams concerned first before making the media announcement.

With the suspension, Madrid will miss games against defending champion De La Salle on Wednesday and against Adamson on Saturday. The Maroons are currently 0-5 (win-loss) to start the season and 0-26 dating back to the college league's 2012 season.
