UNIVERSITY of the Philippines coach Bo Perasol had to apologize to the team for his actions last week when he lashed out at his wards following the loss to University of the East.

Still, Perasol was happy with how UP responded, as the Fighting Maroons rallied from 12 points down to win by three, 59-56, over Far Eastern University on a game-winner by Paul Desiderio.

“Habang nandito kami sa struggles, ‘yung pain, nag-aaway away kami, the important thing is that we have the same goal in mind and that is to uplift the program,” Perasol said.

UP got a tongue-lashing from Perasol after the defeat against UE at the Filoil Flying V Centre, his voice even heard by reporters stationed at the nearby press room last week.

Perasol apologized to the team the day after, but reiterated that his message during the heated postgame talk with the Maroons remained the same.

“Unang-una, I apologized to them with the way I acted,” Perasol said. “Although sabi ko, hindi nagbabago ‘yung message ko sa sinabi ko. Sabi ko sa kanila, I was preaching being in control but at that time, I was really out of control. The message remained the same that we have to be accountable to what we do,” said Perasol.

Desiderio played the hero’s role for UP, hitting a stepback triple with 1.1 seconds on their way to a huge win for the Maroons, who are now tied at fourth place with FEU with a 5-6 win-loss slate.

While Desiderio won the game for UP, Perasol also lauded the effort of the entire squad in overhauling a 49-37 lead in the fourth.

“Malaking contribution din ‘yung ibang players kasi tagal namin hindi naka-score. Our defense, especially our zone defense, held up and that is the one that gave us the opportunity to win,” said Perasol.
