UNIVERSITY of the East heads to battle against National University with Alfred Aroga its biggest concern in the two squads' season debut in the UAAP seniors basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
UE will lean heavily on Bonbon Batiller and transferee Alvin Pasaol for offensive production as the Red Warriors seek to enter the Final Four for the first time in six seasons.
Red Warriors coach Derrick Pumaren, however, noted the need to contain Bulldogs big man Aroga if they hope to stand a chance against the NU crew.
“We just have to make sure that Aroga does not dominate us,” said Pumaren, who is recovering from a flu days before the start of the season.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are expected to become one of the top contenders in the league, led by Aroga and J-Jay Alejandro.
NU hopes to open its Season 79 campaign on a winning note, unlike its 0-3 start last year before recovering mid-season to clinch the last slot in the Final Four.
“We are capable of beating top teams but the question is how consistent are we in doing the same thing every game?” said Altamirano.
