UNIVERSITY of the East has officially relieved David ‘Boycie’ Zamar from his post, saying the new head coach of the Red Warriors will be named next week.

In an official statement, UE executive vice president Carmelita Mateo said the school believes that that the head coach of the Red Warriors should not have any other commitments with other teams.

“The UE management feels that the Warriors’ head coach must be one who will handle the team full time, one without commitments to other teams,” said Mateo, who is also the team manager of the Red Warriors.

Mateo added the development will allow Zamar as well as the rest of his coaching staff the freedom to attend to their commitments outside the Red Warriors.

Mateo, the incoming president of the UAAP with UE hosting Season 77, also hinted that a coaching search has started as she assured that the school will name the new head coach next week.

Sources earlier told Spin.ph that Zamar’s duties as an assistant coach of San Miguel Beer in the PBA led to his firing by the school owned by Lucio Tan, owner of Asia Brewery and a competitor of San Miguel Corporation.

The complete statement of UE is as follows:

Mr. David ‘Boycie’ Zamar will no longer by the Head Coach of the UE Red Warriors Men’s Basketball Team effective April 1, 2014.

UE Management feels that the Warriors’ head coach must be one who will handle the team full-time, one without commitments to other teams.
