FOR two years, the final buzzer had become a familiar sound of heartbreak for University of the East.
On Saturday, it finally told a different tale.
The Red Warriors broke through at last, taking down a reeling Adamson side, 53-47, in the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The victory closed a painful chapter for the red-and-white, ending the second-longest losing streak in men’s basketball history at 30 games - a downward spiral defined by a lot of beatdowns, near-misses here and there, coaching changes, and two full years spent searching for meaning.

For UE, it wasn’t just a first win, but a release of tension and frustration after all the jabs and blows the program have taken to the chin since 2024.
The Falcons, on the other hand, saw their own struggles worsen, dropping to solo seventh at 4-7 - losing for the fourth time in a row and remaining winless in the second round.
