EXPECT a more modulated ambiance in UAAP games this season with league decision to regulate the use of drums inside the game venues.
UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag said the league is standing pat on the new regulations despite criticism on social media.
"The coaches, we spoke to them. The game is really not about the drums and it's actually a small part of the games," he said during the press launch of the new season.
Under the inital plan, schools wil only be allowed to bring in two bass and one snare drum for games held at Smart Araneta Coliseum and Mall of Asia Arena, while only a pair of snare and bass drums will be allowed inside Filoil Flying V Centre.
Last season, the drumlines were already regulated to just five bass drums and two snare drums in the above-mentioned venues.
As expected, students and players themselves expressed their disapproval of the plan, with the hashtag #StandWithUAAPDrummers trending on social media.
Saguisag, though, reiterated that the UAAP board of directors remains open to a dialogue with the schools and their respective drumlines for a posible compromise.
"The idea is gradual change. We will probably come up clarifying how many drums will be allowed," he said. "This is just experimental. Kung talagang kulang, dagdagan natin. Malay ninyo after the first round, mabago na. Wala namang problema."
"We're looking for the right solution necessary to address the situation."
