ATENEO takes on a more detail-oriented approach every game, before looking at a return trip to the finals and a possible championship in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament.

Coming from a runner-up finish last year to arch nemesis La Salle, the Blue Eagles are still looking to reclaim that elusive title they last won in Season 74 that capped their five-peat.

But for Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin, what’s important is not the destination but the journey.

“We don’t try to think big picture all the time, we try to think really small picture, every detail, and if we take care of the details and do our jobs and we believe that will lead to big picture success,” he said.

“We can’t win the championship tomorrow night and we can’t even win the game in the first quarter so we have to keep it play by play,” he added.

The former Gilas Pilipinas mentor knows that everyone in his team wants to win the championship but he prefers to pay attention on what they can control at the moment.

“(Our goal) is just one game at a time. We don’t really get caught up with goals and dreams and things like that,” said Baldwin.

“We all start the season with those ambitions and those dreams (but) we just prefer to talk about things that we can actually do something about, which is the next play. We can’t do anything about the title or the Final Four until we actually get there,” he added.

Baldwin stressed that there's no go-to guy in his team but all the 16 players on the lineup are ready to contribute in their cause. Get a glimpse of the Blue Eagles’ preparation for Season 80 here:
