WITH fine performances in two wins that helped Ateneo move to No. 2 in the UAAP standings, Isaac Go has been picked UAAP Player of the Week.
The 6-foot-7 Go started the week with a 14-point, seven-rebound outing against the defending champion Far Eastern University Tamaraws.
Go then went on to notch his career-high against lowly University of Sto. Tomas, scoring 15 on 7-of-9 shooting.
The 20-year-old Go was picked over Adamson's Jonathan Espeleta, La Salle's Jeron Teng and Kib Montalbo, and University of the East's Philip Manalang by by scribes covering the league.
“It’s the confidence that my coaches and my teammates give me that is important. When they put me in, they tell me that I can do something. They know that I’ll make the right play,” Go said..
“It’s a huge confidence booster for my part and it gives me motivation to go out there.”
Third-year center Go is the second Ateneo player in as many weeks to be given the citation, following Aaron Black as the scribes’ pick for the Accel Quantum/3XVI-UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week.
Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin said he is not surprised with the Eagles’ performances.
“Our team is full of good players. They’ve developed through the course of the season,” Baldwin said.
“They’ve developed confidence in one another and we try to take what the defense gives us. That explains why different players are probably featured in different games.”
