THREE-on-three basketball is now part of the official sports starting this UAAP Season 82.
UAAP president Em Fernandez of host Ateneo bared the news on Sunday during the league's preseason press conference.
"3x3 is now an official sport," he declared, with the two-day tourney now being considered as a part of the medal tally for the UAAP general championship.
Ateneo Blue Eagles ruled the men's division of last year's 3x3 competitions, while the NU Lady Bulldogs reigned in the women's division.
Far Eastern University will serve as the event's sub-host for this season's 3x3 basketball tournament, set to be held in March 2020.
The UAAP will also introduce girls basketball, boys lawn tennis, as well as boys and girls beach volleyball competitions as medal events for this season.
National University will be the sub-host for the lawn tennis events on February 2020, while University of Santo Tomas will be the sub-host for the beach volleyball competitions on January 2020.
