    UAAP launches investigation into Nick Abanto hit on Will Navarro

    NICK Abanto is now under the microscope following his hit on Will Navarro in Ateneo's 84-50 victory over University of the East on Sunday.

    UAAP basketball commissioner Jensen Ilagan bared that he and the technical group are closely reviewing the play that left the Blue Eagle Navarro possibly concussed.

    "Yes, the incident is currently being investigated," the soft-spoken executive said.

    The two players were jostling for position on a rebound play midway through the first quarter when Abanto swung his right forearm and hit Navarro smack in the head.

    That left the 22-year-old sprawled on the floor and needed to be subbed out at the 6:22 mark of the first canto.

    Navarro was eventually taken back to the dugout before Ateneo PTs decided to take him to the hospital for an examination.

    He never returned to the game.

    On Monday, Ateneo team manager Epok Quimpo bared Navarro is 'still under observation' although CT scan findings showed no sign of a concussion.

    Ilagan said that if the technical group's findings prove that Abanto's act was deliberate, he's in danger of being suspended for the Red Warriors' next game on Sunday against Far Eastern University.

    "Based on our guidelines, we can review the play. And if our findings is that the player did the action with intention to hurt, we can upgrade the non-call or make sanctions," he said.
