LA Salle came out with a huge win as it scrapped past Far Eastern University 65-57 to keep a stronghold of the third place in the UAAP Season 81 standings on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Green Archers put the clamps on the Tamaraws midway through the fourth period, as they kept the Tamaraws without a single field-goal in a six-minute stretch to take a 62-53 lead with 1:15 remaining in the game.
It wasn’t until Arvin Tolentino’s three with 34 seconds left in the game and the match all decided.
Struggling for most of the night, Aljun Melecio came up with the biggest points of the match, draining two foul shots and hitting the three-pointer to give the Green Archers a nine-point lead.
The win allowed La Salle to improve to 6-4, a full game ahead of the fourth-running University of the Philippines at 5-5. The Tamaraws slid to fifth place with a 5-6 record.
