UAAP commissioner Chito Loyzaga issued a warning on National University’s Joeffrey Javillonar following a collision with Jeric Teng that led to the University of Santo Tomas star injuring his right shoulder.
In a memorandum, Loyzaga said that an “unsportsmanlike foul with an intention to hurt” should have been called on Javillonar after a thorough review of the video of Wednesday's game won by the Bulldogs, 71-67.
Loyzaga explained that Javillonar was seen on the game tape pushing Teng to the floor at the 1:20 mark of the second quarter. A foul was not called by the referees.
“An unsportsmanlike foul with an intention to hurt the opposing player should have been assessed against you,” said Loyzaga in the memo.
Loyzaga said that the memo is also a warning on Javillonar that a similar incident in the future will merit a one-game suspension.
Teng sat out the entire second half following the hit from behind by Javillonar.
“Hindi ko nakita dahil galing sa likod. Hindi ko alam kung bakit niya ginawa ’yun. Hindi naman siya screen, hindi siya seal,” said Teng.
“Kayo na lang mag-judge kung sinadya ’yun. Pero ang message ko sa kanya, 'May araw rin siya.' ’Yun ang message ko sa kanya. Sa kanya rin babalik ’yun,” he added.
“Going for an offensive rebound lang talaga ako. Hindi ko sadya ’yun,” said Javillonar, who also explained that he tried to apologize to Teng but failed to get a response.
