THE UAAP board denied University of the East’s appeal to lift the one-game suspension on Red Warriors center Charles Mammie.
The league’s Board of Trustees upheld basketball commissioner Chito Loyzaga’s decision to hand Mammie his second unsportsmanlike foul with an intention to hurt in the Red Warriors’ game against Adamson on Wednesday.
A second unsportsmanlike foul with an intention to hurt merits an automatic one-game suspension, according to UAAP rules.
UE coach Boycie Zamar had asked for the lifting of the suspension saying that there was no due process on the decision.
Zamar appealed as he claimed that the team didn’t receive the memo not only on Mammie’s suspension but also the first warning during UE’s previous game against National University last week.
Zamar said they only learned about the decision through the media.
“Wala namang problema doon sa decision kay Charles. But, then again, ‘yung proseso ang malaking issue,” Zamar said in an interview.
