DE La Salle and National University battle in a crucial UAAP men’s basketball game on Wednesday that could determine their Final Four chances in Season 78.
The Green Archers face the Bulldogs at the Mall of Asia Arena at 4 p.m. in a featured showdown just before the league takes a break to give way to All Saints Day.
La Salle is currently sitting at fourth place with an even 5-5 win-loss record, although right behind it is the reigning champion which carries a 4-7 slate.
Both teams are coming off critical losses. The Green Archers were upset by Adamson, 74-75, last Saturday, while the Bulldogs bowed to Ateneo, 68-59, the following day.
A win by the Green Archers will move them closer to idle third-placer Ateneo (7-4), but a loss will allow the bottom half teams that include the Bulldogs, to close the gap entering the final stretch of the eliminations.
The Bulldogs will only trail by half-a-game if they beat the Green Archers, although a loss could hurt their Final Four chances on what has been a trying season for the defending champions.
In the 2 p.m. first game, Far Eastern University eyes at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four when it tackles Adamson.
The Tamaraws have won eight straight games for a 9-1 win-loss slate and another victory will give them a full match lead over second-running University of Santo Tomas (9-2).
The Falcons (2-9) are looking at another upset after beating La Salle.
Adamson was toe-to-toe with FEU in their first round match, but eventually fell to the league leader, 60-64.
