ATENEO goes for a Final Four berth on Wednesday when it faces University of the Philippines at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in the resumption of UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball tournament after the All Saints Day break.
The Blue Eagles take on the Fighting Maroons in the second game of a featured doubleheader at 4 p.m.
Sitting at solo third with a 7-4 win-loss card, the Blue Eagles can claim a semis berth and join early entries Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas with a win over UP. The Fighting Maroons are in a tie for sixth place with University of the East at 3-7.
Ateneo is riding high on a three-game winning streak including a 68-59 victory over National University last October 25.
The Maroons on their part, are trying to stay in the hunt for a Final Four spot as a loss would bring them closer to elimination following a strong start that saw the team win its first two outings.
In the first game, UST looks to book a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four when it tackles University of the East at 2 p.m.
The Tigers beat the Maroons in their last outing, 83-76, to claim their ninth win in 11 games.
UST is in second place behind FEU, which has a 10-1 slate. The two teams meet on Saturday in what many could be a preview of the finals.
Like UP, UE also tries to be within striking distance of De La Salle (5-6) and reigning champion NU (5-7), which remain in the hunt for the fourth and final spot in the Final Four.
