JERON Teng led a fiery start as De La Salle won its fourth straight game in the UAAP men's basketball tournament on Wednesday, bludgeoning hapless University of the Philippines, 74-53, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Teng scored 20 of his 25 points in the first half when the Green Archers opened an early 17-point lead that only got bigger against a Maroons side that played without suspended head coach Rey Madrid.

Teng, who completed a double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds, was quick to atone for a two-point effort in La Salle’s game against Adamson last Sunday.

Still, De La Salle coach Juno Sauler said he wasn't happy with the way the Archers finished the game.

“We didn’t finish with the same energy in the second half,” said Sauler. “I thought we slacked off in the end.”

La Salle built a 26-9 edge at the end of the first period before Teng poured it on in the second period, scoring 13 of La Salle’s 24 points in the quarter.

The romp should be a confidence boost not just for Teng but also for gunner Almond Vosotros, who snapped out of a slump by scoring 15 points on 3-of-4 shooting three-point range.

Norbert Torres had 13 rebounds in his first game back after suffering an ankle injury.

The Maroons slumped to their sixth straight loss - and 27th overall dating back to 2012 - ahead of their showdown with fellow winless team Adamson (0-5) on Saturday.

Kyles Lao had 13 points for the Maroons, who had Ramil Cruz and Poch Juinio calling the shots from the bench in the absence of head coach Madrid who is serving a two-game suspension for 'point shaving' accusations against the referees in last week's match against University of Santo Tomas.
