A TEMPORARY Restraining Order (TRO) has been issued by a Manila court on the UAAP board’s decision to declare Adamson star Florencio ‘Encho’ Serrano ineligible to play in Season 79 of the juniors basketball tournament.
SPIN.ph on Wednesday obtained a document from the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch granting a 72-hour TRO after ruling it found the complaint for injunction against the UAAP and the league’s eligibility committee by Serrano to be “meritorious.”
Serrano was represented by his parents Gomer M. Serrano and Annalyn Z. Caralde in the case.
The TRO came after Adamson’s 11 victories were forfeited by the league after ruling that Serrano was declared ineligible for 'failure to complete the requirements related to his previous high school enrollment.'
It is still unclear what the effect of the TRO will be to the ongoing juniors tournament, which will hold playoffs for seedings as well as the No. 4 spot on Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Centre - a day after the TRO was granted.
Due to the forfeiture of Adamson’s victories, the elimination round ended with Far Eastern University-Diliman and Ateneo tied for No. 2 spot while University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle-Zobel in a tie for the fourth and final berth.
The actual Final Four will be played on February 14 with top-seed National University waiting for the winner of the UST-DLSZ affair.
FEU and Ateneo will also square off on the same day, with the winner of the playoff getting twice-to-beat advantage.
