CHICAGO - Topex Robinson has agreed in principle to a fresh three-year deal to stay as head coach of the La Salle Green Archers, multiple sources told SPIN.ph.
SOTY: La Salle Green Archers hit bullseye in a season like no other
Terms of the new contract were not disclosed. The signing and official announcement is scheduled for next week.
Robinson was originally signed to only a two-year deal when he took over the prestigious basketball program in January this year.
Topex locked up through 2026
But after leading the Green Archers to the UAAP's Season 86 championship that ended a seven-year drought, the university's managers and officials decided to lock him up until 2026.
After underachieving in Round 1 of Season 86, ending with a pedestrian 4-3 won-lost record, the Green Archers swept Round 2 before beating powerhouse UP Maroons in a three-game series where they lost Game One by 30.
Although Robinson never entertained thoughts of leaving La Salle after Season 87 when his initial contract expired, he was getting interest from teams in pro leagues in Japan and Taiwan.
