UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas and Adamson try to break their respective slumps on Wednesday when they collide in the UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The two schools go to the 4 p.m. game still out of the Final Four frame, with UST currently in sixth place with a 4-5 win-loss slate and the Falcons a notch lower in seventh place with a 3-7 mark.
The Tigers have lost their last three games and the Falcons their last five. Another loss will have a big impact on their Final Four hopes especially with top teams National University, La Salle, and Ateneo currently on a roll.
UST, last season’s runner-up, bowed to NU, 75-61, last August 24 with Jeric Teng straining his right hamstring in his first game back after missing four games due to a shoulder injury.
Teng never returned to the game, but the injury is not serious enough to force the senior to miss the Adamson match.
Meantime, the Falcons have not won a game since their first-round encounter against NU last July 20.
Adamson tried to come back from 27-points down against Ateneo last Sunday but the deficit was simply too big to overcome, bowing to the five-time defending champions, 79-66.
Standings: FEU 8-2; NU 7-3; DLSU 6-4; UE 5-4; Ateneo 5-4; UST 4-5; Adamson 3-7; UP 0-9.
