AXEL Torres dreamed of playing for De La Salle in the UAAP alongside brother Thomas before becoming one of the ‘housemates’ in the ABS-CBN hit reality program Pinoy Big Brother: All In.
Months before entering the 'Bahay ni Kuya,' Axel bared to Spin.ph he's determined to land a spot in the Green Archers roster and renew his team-up with younger brother Thomas.
“Excited ako na maging teammate ko uli siya,” said Axel during the interview. “Right now, nag-pa-practice na ako sa team pero wala pang assurance sa Team A.”
However, his plan to crack the Archers’ UAAP lineup had to take a backseat as the 19-year-old Axel became one of the 18 housemates that will have to spend weeks inside the 'Bahay ni Kuya.'
His success in avoiding elimination will dictate how long Axel stays inside the house. The UAAP season starts in July.
Incidentally, La Salle volleyball star Michelle Gumabao is also one of the housemates.
Prior to joining the hit television show, Axel suited up for De La Salle-Zobel in high school and with La Salle Greenhills, where he teamed up with Thomas - a key member of the Green Archers team that wrested the UAAP championship from rival Ateneo last season.
He was already part of La Salle’s Team B this year and knocking on the Team A door.
“The last time I played with him, sa La Salle Greenhills pa, nag-champion kami. We were up against Xavier sa Passerelle and I was named MVP,” Axel proudly shared.
For his part, Thomas is also looking forward to seeing his brother crack the Archers' UAAP team. He believes Axel can make the Green Archers’s lineup if he works hard for it.
“If he pushes himself, I think he can make it. ‘Yun naman ‘yun eh. Sinasabi nila na with hardwork, it’s not impossible,” said the younger Torres.
