FOR leading the Ateneo Blue Eagles to their second-straight UAAP title, Thirdy Ravena has been named Collegiate Player of the Year by sportswriters covering the collegiate beat.
Ravena will be feted during the 2019 Chooks-To-Go Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night on Monday at the Amelie Hotel in Ermita, Manila. He joins brother Kiefer, Mac Belo, Jeron Teng, Robert Bolick and Ben Mbala as players to be given the top award from the Collegiate Press Corps.
The second-generation star put up a finals series to remember, averaging 29.5 points, eight rebounds and 7.5 assists as the Blue Eagles waylaid the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.
Ravena is joined by the likes of San Beda’s Robert Bolick, Perpetual’s Prince Eze and University of the Philippines’ Bright Akhuetie and Paul Desiderio for this year’s All-Collegiate team.
Ravena’s coach, Tab Baldwin has also been named UAAP Coach of the Year, while San Beda’s Boyet Fernandez earned the NCAA coach of the year award for the fifth time.
University of Santo Tomas’ Sisi Rondina is the Collegiate Press Corps’ first UAAP Volleyball Player of the Year awardee, while Arellano’s Regine Arocha was picked as top player in the NCAA.
The awards night is presented by SportsVision and backed by Amelie Hotel, Rain or Shine, NorthPort, World Balance, Arellano University, AXA Team EDS and NBL.
