THIRDY Ravena was a supernova in leading Ateneo to the UAAP Season 81 3x3 men's crown.

But there's someone in the University of Santo Tomas' Tigers lineup who left a big impression on Ravena in the finals.

"Ngayon, nakilala ko si (Rhenz) Abando," he said of the wiry UST forward. "He's incredibly athletic and gifted player. He is going to be a threat to the whole league in the next coming years."

Abando was humbled with the praise he got from the Gilas Pilipinas member.

"Wala akong masabi," he chuckled. "Hindi pa naman ako nakakaapak sa UAAP, pero masaya na. Nakaka-overwhelm."

The La Union native has been one of the few revelations for the Growling Tigers in their offseason preparations, with Abando not only turning heads in UAAP 3x3, but as well as in the Espana side's campaign in the 2019 PBA D-League.

And there's no one else the 6-foot-3 forward credits for his game than his coach Aldin Ayo, no less.

"Ang dami kong natutunan sa kanya. Sobrang laki ng kumpyansa na binibigay niya sa akin," he said.

Ravena and Abando will once again cross paths on Thursday, when their respective sides Cignal-Ateneo and UST clash in the PBA D-League for the early Aspirants Group leadership.
