ATENEO gained the solo lead in the UAAP Season 80 basketball tournament after beating Far Eastern University, 94-82, on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Thirdy Ravena showed the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Blue Eagles secured their third straight win.
La Salle is running second with a 2-0 win-loss slate.
Anton Asistio set the tone for Ateneo with 14 of his 16 points in the first half as the Blue Eagles took a 55-45 lead.
"It was a high-scoring game. We shot the ball well from the field and even from the three-point line, but we also gave a lot of points to FEU," said Ateneo assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga. “But we are happy to come out with a win especially because it's our third game in eight days.”
Ateneo hit seven triples in the first period to post a 34-22 lead.
Up six in the third quarter, the Blue Eagles went on a 9-0 tear with Ravena, Chibueze Ikeh and Matt Nieto converting their shots for a 68-53 lead.
An Isaac Go follow-up made it 76-58 early in the fourth, the largest lead of the game.
Wendell Comboy topscored for the Tamaraws with 12 points, while Arvin Tolentino added 11 points against his former team as FEU slipped to 1-2.
